Panayiotis Smeros

PhD Student @ EPFL

Hey there! Welcome to this corner of the internet where you learn things about me!

I am Panayiotis, a senior PhD student at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) and a member of the Distributed Information Systems Lab (LSIR). My research focuses on news analytics and particularly on scientific misinformation. I have developed SciClops & SciLens, two methods to assist claim-based and article-based scientific fact-checking. I also coordinate the development of NewsTeller, a real-time news analytics platform for investigating the media landscape at scale.

I obtained my MSc and BSc degrees from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), where I was also a member of the Artificial Intelligence Lab (AI). I am broadly interested in the research areas of Misinformation, Fact-Checking, Computational Journalism, Data Analysis, Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, and Semantic Web.
